Derek Hu serves as Executive Vice President in the firm’s Shanghai office.  He has more than 12 years experience in executive search and brings extensive experience in building both China and Asian operations through the placement of key executives in both these domestic and regional markets.
 
Mr. Hu was previously a Principal at Edward W Kelly & Partners/A T Kearney Executive Search focusing on placing executives in China and throughout Asia Pacific.  Mr. Hu’s experience in search covers all levels of management with particular emphasis on C-level searches, Heads of Business and operational leaders as well as all functional areas reporting to these roles. His industry experience has covered a wide variety of sectors, especially in Industrial and Consumer, and he possesses deep experience in finance related assignments including senior level roles in Banking and Private Equity including C-level roles for Corporate Finance, Risk Management and Project Finance. 

Prior to his career in executive search, Mr. Hu served as Human Resources Director for Icon Medialab Asia Ltd based in Hong Kong and Shanghai. There, he was responsible for providing human resources support and leadership as well as advising on business strategy, change management and succession planning for the growth of their Asia Pacific organization.  Mr. Hu also served as Business Development Manager for an American company based in New York, assessing potential partners for Asian production and negotiating buying contracts for retail manufacturing agreements in Greater China and Thailand.  His experience includes time with Monitor Consulting Group as an Associate in their Los Angeles office.

Currently based in Shanghai, Mr. Hu grew up in the United States and has been based in Greater China for 12 years.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).  He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
